If Donna Karan’s namesake line is meant for the sophisticated career lady, then DKNY is all about her free-spirited little sister. Created in 1989 during Karan’s quest for the ultimate pair of blue jeans, the range is what she describes as the “pizza” to her luxury collection’s “caviar”—think off-duty essentials with sleek, sporty twists, like signature DKNY jersey dresses, sneakers, oversized knits, and, of course, jeans. Although Karan has stepped down from her role at the company, its current creative directors Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne—the duo behind buzzy streetwise brand Public School—offer a similar city-kid aesthetic that feels true to the label's DNA.
