Thanks to skills finessed at Daryl K., Tocca, and Alexander McQueen, British transplant Sue Stemp became an instant darling of the fashion world with her 2006 self-named New York label. But despite immediate success, the economic recession took a toll on the brand, and Stemp deserted the fast-paced city for the free-spirited enclave of Los Angeles’ Laurel Canyon with husband Paud Roche. There, Stemp was inspired to create the kind of eco-friendly, wearable, and affordable garments that her laid-back surroundings demanded. Launching in 2015, her vision took the form of St. Roche clothing, a collection of airy tops and dresses boasting intricate, hand-crafted details and sustainable, artisan-made fabrics.
