Engineer 8R Boots

    About the Designer

The oldest continuously operated shoe company in the United States, stepping into a pair of Frye boots is like stepping into history. The company was founded in 1863 and run for 50 years by John A. Frye, a well-to-do shoemaker from England. Frye boots have traveled with soldiers from America's Civil War through World War II, and in the 1960s the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, was reintroduced and soon rose to high demand. Today, Frye's boots still hold a place in American culture. See all Frye reviews

    Boots of Steel
These boots are incredibly well made. I know that I'm going to get many years wear out of these. The leather is so tough! I have a regular size 7 foot and I ordered these in my normal size but I would recommend going a half size up as for me they are a little narrow and snug across the top of my foot. I know after a couple of days or weeks wearing them in they will form better around my foot. Also the dye from the leather inside the shoe rubs off so make sure you roll up your pants and/or wear black socks over them. Overall they are beautiful and durable looking boots and so worth the money!

    Very happy with these
I've been lusting over these for a couple years and finally bought them. I wasn't sure if I should get the 8R or the 12R, but I am very happy with the shorter one. They are super comfortable from the get-go, they fit true to size, and I've enjoyed wearing these in the winter because the traction is great. The dye is intense, so wear with black socks. Looking forward to wearing these for years and years to come.

I bought these hard-working boots last year and gave them excellent review. Now, a year later of rough wear they are even better!!!! Come wind, snow, rain, anything! Bring it on!!

    go with everything
these are super cute, go with skinny jeans, leggings, tights and a dress, whatever. my biggest complaint is that you have to wear black socks because the color rubs off and doesn't come out in the wash. otherwise, i love them!

I LOVE these boots! I first ordered in my regular size, but I had to return them as they were to big. Got new ones 1/2 size smaller, and they fit perfect. The leather is really god quality, and they are confortable on the foot. Classic design, so I can use them year after year.

I choose a half size larger than my other shoes' AU size. And it is good. They are quite heavy.

The best moto boot out there!
It's impossible to go wrong with Frye boots! This is my second pair and they are so durable, and considering the timeless style, I will have them for years! They required zero breaking in, but I would recommend wearing black socks for the first few wears. They look great with skinny jeans, leggings, and especially denim shorts. Everyone is copying these boots (fakes everywhere where I live) and I can understand why. I wouldn't size up or down, I got the same size I do in everything and they are perfect with no trouble getting into them.

    Stains your jeans
I bought these boots 2 years ago, and unfortunately they are still staining the bottom of my jeans. They don't just slightly stain it, by the end of the day, they put huge blocks of black stain where my boots hit my jeans...and the worst part is that it does not wash off on certain materials. I got around this by just cuffing the bottom of my jeans. In terms of fit, I am a true 6.5 and I ordered both the 6.5 and 6. I would say that both sizes fit a bit awkwardly IMO. The 6.5 felt too big and the size 6 felt too small. I ended up going with the smaller size, and they HAVE gotten more comfortable over time, although the leather is so thick that it took a long time to break in. Actually, whenever I wear thicker socks in the winter, it still hurts the sides of my pinky toe. The positive side is that these boots and the leather DO look great. It's just hard to justify the cost when it stains all my pants!

Cute but a little heavy looking
I have tried these boots in both the 12R and 8R versions. I am 5'3" and the 8R were better for me since the 12R hit in an awkward place right at the bottom of the calf muscle and kind of made me look like I had cankles. Taller gals may prefer the 12R (I sold mine on ebay and almost recovered what I paid). These can look a little heavy and clunky but are cute when worn right--they're just not quite as versatile as I'd hoped. If you have a high arch like me they are a little difficult to get on as the prior reviewer described, but once on they are perfectly comfortable. I live in a snowy area and these are great for slushy days--and they hold up beautifully to nasty weather. They look great with boyfriend jeans and leggings, but not so good with skinnies where there's any bunching at the ankle (since I'm short most of my jeans bunch). Still a worthy purchase and get tons of compliments.

these boots are so stylish and the leather is so thick - much more than i expected however i think it will make them last longer for that reason. i am usually a 9-10 so i ordered a 9.5 (so glad i didnt order a 9) - as they were quite small and hard to get on. once my foot was in the boot there was heaps of room by the toes but the face of my feet scrape on the roof of the shoe. i think this will loosen with wear as all leather does. i think if i went up a size though my foot would be to loose inside the shoe ad it would be uncomfortable.
