Shoshanna Odette Strapless Bengaline Dress

Description

A lustrous Shoshanna party dress with a sweet, feminine aesthetic. A sculpted ruffle ripples down the boned bodice, and box pleats crease the full skirt. On-seam hip pockets and hidden back zip. Lined bodice and unlined skirt.

Fabric: Bengaline.
Shell: 53% acetate/47% cotton.
Lining: 100% polyester.
Dry clean.
Made in the USA.

Designer

Shoshanna Lonstein Gruss launched her collection in 1998 because she was unable to find wearable, beautiful clothes for her body type. "I could never find a halter dress or strapless top that offered support for women who usually need to wear a bra," she says. Shoshanna Swimwear followed in 2001, and gave women with curves a new outlook on buying a bikini. Adorable Dress
I have several other Shoshanna dresses and the Odette dress is a great addition to any closet! I wore the dress to a May wedding and received many compliments on the dress and plan on wearing it to another wedding later this summer. I love the ruffle on the chest and the pockets are a fun addition and make the dress feel very effortless and comfortable. The only complaint I could imagine someone having is that the boning in the top of the dress can be a little uncomfortable after wearing the dress for a few hours, but it didn't bother me too much. I am larger on top and was not able to fit a strapless bra under the dress, but it is structured enough that it provided plenty of support without a bra. It's a fun spring/summer party dress!

Just didn't work
The color and the fabric are gorgeous. Unfortunately, the size 8 was too large (I vary between 6 and 8, but as a 34D, I'm usually a size 8 in strapless dresses) in the waist AND bust. It wouldn't stay up without alterations. Also, the zipper got caught at the waist line (even when I wasn't wearing the dress), which was a little thick and therefore didn't really nip in at the smallest part of my midsection - it just sort of hovered around it and made me appear larger. I loved the pockets, though. I'm sad to send this dress back.
