In a small English village, early in the 19th century, brothers James and Cyrus Clark developed the first sheepskin slippers from tannery scraps. As the world entered the Industrial Revolution, Clarks shoes and slippers cornered the now full-scale industry of casual footwear. Clarks introduced formfitting insoles in the 1880s, the foot gauge tool in the 1940s, and the original desert boot by 1950. In present day, Clarks shoes recapture the classic cool and pared-down design which built the dynastic company centuries ago.
