Big - and cheap-feeling leather
These looked adorable on the site - well, they are adorable in real life as well, but there were a few unexpected negatives. They are very stiff - the leather is not at all supple, and kind of feels like the shoes are made of cardboard. I have flat feet, so I don't know how they'd feel on non-flat-footers, but the inside edge sits low on the foot and cuts into my instep. I might have kept them despite this, but my usual MBMJ shoe size (38.5) turned out to be HUGE. I don't know when they changed the sizing, but I have three other pairs of MBMJ shoes in 38.5 and they fit perfectly. These shoes were a full size too large - I'd probably be a 37.5 if I exchanged these (which is my usual size in other shoe brands). I'm going to return them.

Fit just right
I wasn't sure whether to order the 27 or 28 because the shorts are 100% cotton (no stretch), but I went with my usual 27 and I'm glad I did because 28 would have been too big. Citizens are the one jean brand that I never have to wear a belt with and don't gape at the back when I sit down (I'm 5'7, 133 lbs, 35-24-37.5). They're still loose enough that I can roll them to whatever length I want. Plus, they're made in the US, which means no duties for Canadians! I didn't realize when buying them that they have a button fly, but that doesn't make a difference to me. The denim feels very soft, not at all stiff, and is mid-weight. I shall be wearing them loads this summer.
