About the Brand
Artist Shepard Fairey made his mark with a 1989 street art campaign, which later evolved into Obey Giant iconography. With the phenomenon as its namesake, Obey was founded in 2001 as a way of translating Fairey’s work into fashion. The aesthetic is rooted in punk rock and skateboarding, but also includes references to pop culture, commercial marketing, and political messaging.
