Beachy Matching Sets

Getting dressed on a 100+ degree day can be a real challenge. Our answer to a foolproof heatwave outfit? An easy-breezy matching set will keep you cool while you're soaking up the sun. But which fabric to choose? Kate Johanson, Shopbop's associate fashion director, recommends crochet as a great option for looking relaxed yet put-together on the beach. "If your vibe is laid-back, try a boxy button-down with loose shorts," suggests Johanson, noting brands like Farm Rio and Patbo as a resource. For a more glam, beach-babe look, slip a maxi skirt over your favorite bikini. No matter which style you go for, pair it with thong sandals and a bucket hat (for extra sun protection).

Dinner party? Birthday bash? Big night out? Having a couple of chic matching sets on rotation (our fashion team loves Ulla Johnson and Jason Wu) will allow you to mix and match patterns and textures, multiplying the options in your event-ready lineup. “Whether it’s a skirt set or a suiting moment, a standout two-piece is a perfect solve for last-minute occasion-wear style dilemmas,” Johanson shared. “It’s an instant outfit that can also be worn separately for multiple options.” Complete the look with cool sunnies and statement heels. Et voilà, you’re ready to party!

Casual Matching Sets

"Canadian tuxedos are THE matching sets of the moment," says Johanson. Think: long denim maxi skirts (hi, Reformation) with a matching blouse and denim blazers paired back to your favorite jeans. Sporty-cool tennis-inspired sets (think crop tops & mini skirts) nail the athleisure trend—and work well for day-to-day errands and WFH days, too. Of course, loungewear two-pieces are a tried-and-true staple for those extra lazy days. For shoes, street sneakers are always cool & comfortable, or dress things up with a strappy heel.

Tailored Matching Sets

Suiting is a power move when it comes to professional office looks on big meeting days. Johanson recommends elevating your summer workwear wardrobe with a sharp tailored two-piece from Favorite Daughter. Go monochromatic with a slouchy linen blazer-and-trouser combo for an outfit that’s equal parts relaxed and put-together—just add tonal sandals. "You can also opt for wide-leg pant sets or add in some texture to your suiting for a modern take on the trend," Johanson shares. If your office is more fashion forward, slip into a bold two-piece set from a playful brand like STAUD and team it with iconic pointed pumps and gold jewelry.

Vacation Matching Sets

When traveling someplace new, the last thing you want to do is spend precious time deciding what to wear. "Make your packing list work for you—invest in short sets or other fun two-piece sets in linen, cotton, and macramé for easy outfit selection," Johanson advises. “It’ll save you time in the long run.” Vacations should be fun, and so should your vacation style… so say yes to halter crop tops and high-waisted sets that show a peek of skin. Don’t be afraid to take risks with your getaway looks: bold, bright prints (we suggest Mara Hoffman) or sweet ruffles & cutouts (look to those from Allina Liu) are easy-breezy statement makers.
