Legend has it the formidable Sonia Rykiel got her start by commissioning a soft sweater from one of her husband's suppliers in Italy. The sweater was sent back for alterations seven times before she was satisfied with it. Calling it the Poor Boy Sweater, she sold it in her husband's elegant boutique. The Poor Boy made the cover of ELLE and the rest is history. Especially known for her slim sweaters, signature stripes, and assertive statements, Sonia Rykiel has been a force of nature since her birth in 1930.
