A collection with references that ran the gamut from Prohibition-era flappers and Joni Mitchell's Ladies
of the Canyon, to cowgirls and '80s Madonna wannabes might have spelled certain disaster in less deft
design hands, but Anna Sui pulled it off with characteristic panache.

While definitely not for the devout minimalist, Sui's exquisitely executed more-is-more aesthetic is nothing
if not fun to wear. Models seemed to skip rather than stomp down the runway, some breaking into smiles
as they posed at the end, and it wasn't hard to see why: these playful, personality-laden pieces are the
kind of clothes you treasure for seasons.
A full spectrum of influences play together perfectly in the Anna Sui fall '09 collection. No one does prints quite like Sui, and her fall line is awash in intricate paisleys in vibrant purples, blues,
oranges, and reds, plus delicate florals that provide the perfect complement to her sweetly sophisticated
dresses. Tweeds, black watch plaid, and velvet keep things grounded, while embellishment, well-placed
sparkle and metallic accents bring the bohemian glamour this line is beloved for.
