REALLY Unflattering.
I recently ruined a moss-green Velvet by Graham & Spencer skirt I bought a couple of years ago (the Anthropologie 'Water's Edge' skirt). It was a wardrobe staple, and perennially flattering. I hoped the Splendid Maxi Skirt in Military would replace it, but it didn't look anywhere near as good. While the Velvet by G&S skirt had a double layer of jersey, the Splendid skirt is unlined. I'm a US 8/AU 12, and bought this in M. It didn't actually feel too small, but the style is really clingy and leaves nothing to the imagination. In fact, it seemed to reveal bulges I didn't know I had, and the panty-line was plainly visible. I looked like a sack of potatoes. The foldover waist helps a bit, but it's still unflattering. I would have to wear Spanx with this, and that defeats the purpose of an easy-going jersey maxi. The quality of the fabric was good, as I'd expect from Splendid, but the colour is more yellow than I expected. It really is an army green. Sadly, it's going back.

They look cheap.
These were a big disappointment! I read a lot of the reviews here before purchasing, negative and positive, but as the rating was high I thought I would be safe. As soon as I pulled these on I knew I wouldn't keep them. They're not long enough, for starters. I'm 5'9" and these were at least two inches above my ankle. I would be constantly pulling them down. The fit was otherwise fine, although the waist wasn't very snug. The main issue is the fabric. It's not opaque, and frankly it looks like cheap jersey. Not worth the money. Sadly, I'm sending them back. And the search for the perfect basic legging continues.

Ooooo. So Lovely.
Oh Splendid, how do I love thee. Let me count the ways! I already have a Splendid Vintage Whisper Tee in Blue Reef, and the bright periwinkle shade is so darling and so flattering I decided to nab this stripey one in Blue Reef too. Like my other tee, this fits perfectly, skimming the body without showing lumps and bumps. The jersey is very fine and diaphanous, but not sheer. The cut is just magic. I hate really tight, thick t-shirts, because I think they make even the slimmest people look like beanbags. The loose-but-tailored cut of Splendid tees is the perfect antidote. They're so easy to throw on, and they don't seem to mind not being ironed. Despite being extremely comfortable, they're also somehow kind of sexy, especially with skinny jeans and boots. They've quickly become a wardrobe staple for me.

ANOTHER PERFECTLY SPLENDID TEE!
I'm addicted to Splendid tees. I MUST HAVE THEM ALL. The Vintage Whisper tees are deliciously soft and diaphanous, as though they were woven by faeries, out of cobwebs. They're cut perfectly, so they skim the body without clinging, and despite the delicate nature of the fabric they're not sheer. The length is always exactly right - not too long, not too short - so it doesn't cling around the hips. This one has a straight hem across the bottom, but a curved hem at the back, which provides a little extra coverage. The sleeves hit at the right part of the arm, and have a small cuff. The blue shade is stunning - sort of an indigo with a hint of violet. Very flattering. The only strange thing about this tee is that I nearly put it on backwards, because it has a scoop neck at the back, and a higher neckline at the front. It actually looks nice either way around, somehow. Splendid tees are mysteriously slimming and just so comfortable. It's like being hugged by bunnies.

PERFECT TEE!
I nabbed this on sale, and I'm glad I did. The jersey is soft and fine, but not at all sheer. The cut is very flattering, and it skims the tummy without clinging (a quality I like in t-shirts). The blue colour is stunning; a classic mid-blue with a hint of purple, or a sort of muted periwinkle. It's a universally flattering colour. Buying tees online is often hit-and-miss, because you don't get to feel them, but this is as good as T-shirts get. The quality is obviously very good, and I can see this tee surviving wash after wash and becoming the sartorial equivalent of a Linus blanket. ;)
