I love J brand jeans. The last ones I bought stretched out really fast after each wear. So since these are the same percentage of cotton/lycra I sized down. Just because they are tight at first that is not an indicator of what they will be like after use. I got a 26 instead of my usual 27 and they are fine. I am a true 27, but with this material you must size down!
