Nice Frye booties. Awesome service.
I was looking for a multi-purpose quality bootie. I like Frye products, but the Engineer 8R was a bit out of my comfort zone, in part because I am lanky with 13" calves. Alas, this is a nicely proportioned boot. Tough, a bit stiff, but still feminine. Charcoal color is shaded from a dark toe to a basic med gray. The only caveat is the size. I am always an 8 US in Frye boots. Would've been better off with an 8.5 with this style (thus the 4 stars). No thick winter socks for me. Suggest going up one half size. Surprisingly these booties make your feet appear smaller, so no worries there. I am currently on a long term assignment in Europe. Shopbop service rocks. Fast, no customs hassle, no crazy additional fees and charges. Amazing. The best online retailer there is for any expat and/or international online customer! Thanks, Shopbop.

Runs small; runs expensive
Overall, this is a nice sandal, but I just cannot see its value at a regular price. Would have been comfy for my narrow finicky feet, but what I had considered a generous size allowance in a 38.5 (I am a 38/7.5 in sandals) proved to be too short. I'd have needed a 39 for length. I had toyed with this potentially comfy, Euro-stylish errand runner for weeks and jumped at the opportunity to buy once it had hit the sale rack, Returned it with ease, tho. Had it fit, I would've kept it. At half off, I would have made a purchase at this item's true price point.

One star disappointment
At $95, I had appropriate expectations and some hope for a real value. There is none of that here. Hard, unpleasant and unyielding all around. Cowhide? I'd like to see the cow. Most likely a plastic replica of one. Cheap plastic zipper in line with my previous comment: hard & unyielding. Fits true to size and width. Gave it one star for design and color, albeit poorly rendered. I would not keep these sandals even as a free gift with, lets say, a magazine subscription. Found them unwearable. Thanks to Shopbop for great shipping, return and refund policies, by far the best online.

TTS fit & not a petite length
I am a 25 or 26 in Sevens, depending what I am willing to put up with. In the dojo style, both sizes fit, but in a 25 I would have to launder carefully and only fluff in the dryer. Size 26 allows me to wash and dry without any concern. At 5'5" I am not a petite, but these are super long in regular sizes (add alteration cost and hassle) and still long enough for a pair of platforms in petites. I'd say the inseam must be around 33"- judging by the fit. Nice quality, nice weight for Fall and a nice change from the skinnies. Loved my light-wash summer ones (size 25) and already love my darker fall pair.

Wish they'd come in half sizes
I am a consistent 38.5 with a slim-medium foot. Per instructions I'd ordered up to a 39. Guess the heel strap is cut short and engineered to push your foot forward and secure it in place. Sadly, in the 1/2 size longer 39, the heel-strap push created a snowshoe effect. An unbecoming sole length (the extra 1/2 size plus the push of the strap) protruded from under my heel. At the same time, the short strap cut into my heel and hurt. I liked the style enough to exchange for a 38. The length is exact without a hair to spare. Yet again, the heel strap is a killer. This pair is currently at my cobbler's. Since I don't like pain or blisters, I had tasked her with breaking-in / stretching the heel strap. We'll see... Still, this is a nice pair of sandals, well made, simple and classic. Gave it three stars for whole-sizes only sizing and the heel-strap design blunder.

A whole-size-only fit gamble
I am a true 38.5 with a finicky, slim-medium feet and a troublesome left foot to boot. For me, purchasing whole-size only shoes online is always a gamble. Per fit instructions I had gone down and ordered a 38. The size was truly tight across the toe box. With the rubber compound at the tip, I had not hoped for much stretch. Exchanged for a 39, and the fit is perfect with a little more give on my less demanding right foot. Thus if you have two perfect feet and are in-between sizes, you can get away with sizing down. Otherwise, size up. Plum color is a rich choco with hints of plum in certain light, with plum tonal stitching. Definitely an all season super interesting neutral. Overall, the style packs design, quality and versatility. Well worth the price.

True to size, fit info notwithstanding
Loved the retro idea of culottes, a comfy all-in-one combo. I am 5'5", usually 25 or 26 in jeans. Based on the fit instructions & model's dimensions (in a size S, noted measurements definitely smaller than mine) in addition to the brand's generally tight sizing scale and a true-waist fit of the style, I had opted to purchase an M. Well, I had over analyzed that one. Received one huge set of pants! Easy on, easy off though. Slipped right down over my hips, fully buttoned and zipped. I'd promptly exchanged for an S, which should arrive today. Can't wait. Still love the idea behind the style, and now I know that the fabric is lusciously soft, the style spot on (trendy rather than matronly - my initial worry) and overall quality and execution, top notch.
